The universality of his poetry has made Pablo Neruda one of the greatest poets of our century.

As a diplomat, writer, politician and, above all, poet, he is one of the most influential voices of the twentieth century, a century shattered by conflict.

His writing is accurate and powerful, moving and upsetting. His vision of man and his torments, of beauty, of life, of love, of death and of war, reaches us without hindrance. He is the poet of the wise and the simple, the minister and the bricklayer, the ambassador and the washerwoman.

The show "Je demande la permission de naître" (I ask permission to be born) captures this universal language. Without ever drying up its eloquence, it gives the poet's texts a voice of their own, with feminine accents that cannot be denied in the very essence of the poetry celebrated here.

This female voice is that of Marthe Keller. Storyteller, narrator, reader... she carries all the chords of Pablo Neruda's most beautiful pages with precision.

Like an echo to the musicality of the texts, three musicians play Latin American music, which responds like a feverish, sensual or light-hearted dialogue to the depth of the words. It's an inversion intended by Vincent Prezioso, the show's creator, where the feminine embodies the words and the masculine the melody.

On stage, the musicians perform some of the most beautiful songs by Violeta Parra, Victor Jara and Los Quilapayùn. But there are also new musical creations and previously unreleased songs to illustrate this fascinating journey, in which the narrator runs through an anthology of texts taken from collections such as "La Centaine D'Amour", "Vague divague", "L'Espagne au cœur" and "Le Mémorial de l'île Noire".

This show is a must-see for its originality, its humanist framework that captivates the audience and transports them beyond time and borders. Marthe Keller's performance is a vibrant tribute to the poetry of Pablo Neruda, the timbre of her voice by turns enchanting and moving, stinging and shaking the soul.

The musical outbursts respond and intertwine with the voice of poetry incarnate.

"It is only through ardent patience that we will be able to conquer the splendid city that will give light, justice and dignity to all mankind. Then poetry will not have sung in vain".

With these words from Arthur Rimbaud, Pablo Neruda concluded the speech he gave in Stockholm in 1971, when he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

In this show, poetry rediscovers its original vocation: to soar like a universal song.
